Commissioning a building’s energy-related systems is a highly effective way to improve its energy performance and efficiency. In order for a project to receive LEED certification, it must complete the Fundamental Commissioning (FCx) prerequisite. Fundamental Commissioning seeks to understand the owner’s needs and ensure that the project delivery process is tailored to meet them. This is done through close collaboration with consultants and peer reviews during design development as well as a consistent site presence during construction for installation checks and functional testing.
Enhanced Commissioning (ECx) builds on the FCx activities, extending post into the post-construction with seasonal testing and warranty checks, earning a project up to 6 additional LEED points. This expanded involvement includes reviews of contractor submittals as well as coordination and validation of owner training and handover documentation. It can also expand the scope beyond HVAC and electrical systems into commissioning the building envelope.
The benefits of commissioning aren’t reserved for LEED projects. Mission Green Buildings has enhanced the project delivery of building construction following various other sustainability frameworks including Built Green HD and custom Sustainable Best Practices defined by the client. MGB is happy to work with building owners and facility managers to customize the commissioning services provided à la carte – as little or as much involvement as it best suits the project and the client.
